Success Seminar

Starting in 2014, CollegeBound reached out to soon-to-be high school freshmen (8th graders) to help transition into high school and to begin thinking about college.  Now this spring, half-day, seminar informs students about how grades matter, GPA, taking the SAT/ACT and the overall college process.  The seminar also inofrmed parents about financial aid, scholarships, important dates/timelines and more!

Rising Senior Seminar
For the past 17 summers, the CollegeBound Foundation reached out to soon-to-be seniors (high school juniors) and their parents to “jump start” their engagement with the college admission process. This summer seminar connects hundreds of students and parents with college admission and financial aid officers who are recognized as experts in their field. The half-day seminar is an in-depth primer on getting ready for college - early!

Financial Literacy Workshops
Surveys conducted by the JumpStart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy revealed the average student who graduates from high school lacks basic skills in the management of personal finances. Many are unable to balance a checkbook and most simply have no insight into the basic survival principles involved with earning, spending, saving and investing. The CollegeBound Foundation partnered with Baltimore’s Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU) to develop a curriculum to address this issue for Baltimore City public high school students. Each fall, executives from MECU deliver Financial Literacy Seminars in each CollegeBound-staffed high school to college bound seniors covering basic personal financial management skills.

Student Athlete Seminars
The Student Athlete Seminars are held at each CollegeBound-staffed school.  In 2002, the CollegeBound Foundation launched its early intervention NCAA Clearinghouse seminar program aimed at Freshmen and Sophomore high school student athletes.  Since that time we have expanded our focus to include other athletic scholarship programs.  Many student athletes are not aware of what is required for them to be NCAA, NAIA, or Juco eligilble either academically or for scholarship purposes. Changing or modified NCAA eligibility requirements make this a “must do” learning activity for all high school student athletes.

Transition to College Workshops
The CollegeBound Transition to College workshops were devised to smooth the transition for high school graduates planning to enter college the next Fall. At every CollegeBound-served high school, a workshop is held for seniors and parents to take advantage of this important college preparation opportunity.
